Operations & Installation Manager

Backyard Unlimited is seeking an Operations & Installation Manager to oversee outdoor structure projects from initial sale through final installation. This role combines field leadership, project management, scheduling, and customer service to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

About the Role
The Operations & Installation Manager serves as the connection between sales, suppliers, customers, and installation crews. This role is responsible for managing project schedules, supporting field teams, coordinating deliveries and equipment, and ensuring every customer receives a high-quality finished product.
This is a hands-on leadership position that requires both strategic planning and active involvement in daily operations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Oversee projects from sale through installation, ensuring timelines, quality standards, and customer expectations are met throughout the process.Installation Crew Leadership
Lead and support installation crews in the field. Maintain high standards for workmanship, productivity, and jobsite safety.Hands-On Field Support
Work alongside crews when needed to help meet project deadlines, resolve challenges, and support successful installations.Scheduling & Logistics
Coordinate installation schedules, labor resources, deliveries, equipment, and materials to maximize efficiency.Sales & Customer Support
Partner with the sales team to provide installation expertise, assist with project planning, and support complex customer opportunities.Site Evaluations
Conduct pre-installation site visits to take measurements, evaluate site conditions, verify accessibility, and identify any potential challenges before construction begins.Customer Follow-Up
Communicate with customers after project completion to address concerns, ensure satisfaction, and support a positive customer experience.Fleet & Equipment Management
Oversee company trucks, trailers, tools, and equipment to ensure they remain organized, maintained, and ready for use.Material Receiving & Inventory Support
Assist with receiving shipments, verifying order accuracy, and organizing materials for upcoming projects.Team Development
Help train, mentor, and develop installation team members while promoting accountability, teamwork, and pride in quality craftsmanship.What We’re Looking For
Strong leadership skills with a hands-on, lead-by-example approach.
Excellent organizational and scheduling abilities.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.
Professional communication skills with customers, vendors, and team members.
Commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction.
Ability to balance field responsibilities with planning and administrative tasks.
Education & Experience
Minimum 2 years of experience leading construction, installation, carpentry, or field service teams.
Strong background in residential construction, outdoor structures, carpentry, roofing, or related trades.
Experience with project scheduling, logistics coordination, equipment management, or delivery planning.
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
Experience operating trucks, trailers, forklifts, or construction equipment is preferred.
DOT Medical Card, CDL, OSHA certifications, or forklift certification are a plus.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Physical & Environmental Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Ability to walk, climb, bend, and navigate active construction sites safely.
Comfortable driving company vehicles and operating equipment as needed.
Flexibility to support seasonal workloads, occasional extended hours, and limited overnight travel.
